Another productive community Litter Pick

The members of the Forest Hill Society once again joined forces with the Friends of Albion Millennium Green and Surfers Against Sewage, to deal with the litter along the railway path from Forest Hill Station to the Sydenham bridge.

More than a dozen volunteers gathered in the morning of 14th February - including at least one couple who kicked off their Valentine's Day together with this event.

The path had been recently cleared of much rubbish and a great deal of the overgrown vegetation by work from the Community Payback Team, which is a wonderful way for the community and the participants to be engaged. We hope to work together in future on more local projects. However, our eager volunteers got to work both in the Green, and along the path, and managed to collect over 14 full sacks of rubbish - including plenty of glass beer bottles, vape refills, fast food packaging, and dog mess bags. Each of these weighed around 10kg, making the total collected between 100-150kg!

Thank you so much again for everyone's effort to make this area more attractive and safe. Our goal is to further reduce the overgrown areas with brambles that stop us using these beds, and that attract rubbish, and maybe even make them attractive flowerbeds to improve biodiversity. Watch this space!
