Volunteers of all ages gathered for a litter-pick action, collecting more than 200kg of rubbish in a single morning. Amazing!

We recently reported on the first litter-pick of 2025 along the railway path in Forest Hill, running from the station to the Sydenham Park footbridge. In that session volunteers picked up around 100kg of rubbish, including bottles, cans, packaging, and all manner of discarded household rubbish. However, we ran out of time and rubbish bags rather than materials to collect, and so we brought even more people together to complete the job. In another collaboration between the Forest Hill Society, the Friends of Albion Millennium Green and Surfers Against Sewage, and with the support of the London Borough of Lewisham, we organised another action on Saturday, 8th of February. Despite the drizzly weather, we had around 20 volunteers in total, with many individuals but also whole families involved.
This time, together we collected 200+kg of rubbish. What an achievement!

Our plan is to get Lewisham to send in a crew to deal with the overgrown brambles and to clear the spaces so they can maybe be seeded with wildflowers and encourage more residents to use these paths and treat them with more care.
Watch this space!
Thanks again to everyone for their support and involvement, and especially to all those folks who walked past and gave us encouraging waves and thanks.
