There are major changes underway at three well-known businesses in Forest Hill:
The All Inn One pub is becoming The Foresters Arms
The Prince of Wales pub is becoming The Stuffed Walrus
WHSmith has become TGJones
The All Inn One pub is becoming The Foresters Arms
The All Inn One has been taken over by Fauna Brewing, after Julia and Richard decided to step away after 25 years of serving Forest Hill. See their farewell message here:
The Forest Hill Society often used the All Inn One for committee meetings, quiz nights and Burns Night suppers, so we hope Julia and Richard put in a good word for us with the new managers!
The pub is being redecorated and will re-open soon. It has already returned to its former name of The Foresters Arms (which has prompted some memories of a previous sign being spelled with a double 'R' in Forresters - does anyone else recall this or are we suffering with a collective false memory?).

Fauna Brewing is a small, independent brewery and taproom based in Arundel in West Sussex. They're intending to offer food in The Foresters Arms, and we're looking forward to seeing what else they have planned.
The Prince of Wales pub is becoming The Stuffed Walrus
This Perry Rise pub is currently being refurbished, with the aim of reopening late August or early September. The new name is inspired by the well-known walrus in Horniman Museum. Rhidian and Alexandra Turner are the new managers, and they intend to run The Stuffed Walrus as a neighbourhood pub, serving food and hosting events such as live music, quizzes, and children's activities in summer.

WHSmith has become TGJones
Following WHSmith selling its high street stores to Modella Capital, the Forest Hill branch has been re-branded with the new shop name: TGJones.

WHSmith has kept its travel division, which operates stores in train stations, airports and hospitals, so the name will still exist, but no longer on high street shops.
There has been a WHSmith shop next to Forest Hill station for many decades. We don't know when it originally opened here, but the National Railway Museum has a photo taken in 1949 showing the station and WHSmith in a small building next to it. We think the current building opened in the 1960s.
It will be interesting to see what changes are introduced. The TGJones website is currently selling WHSmith-branded stationery, so perhaps that's a sign that they will continue to stock WHSmith's own-brand products.
