Environment Committee
The Environment committee focuses on making Forest Hill a greener, cleaner and more pleasant place.
At the station, we maintain and develop the garden in the forecourt, garden on platform 1, platform planters, and adjacent planters on Perry Vale, London Road and Dartmouth Road. We have, with support from local businesses, added edible plant and bamboo tubs to the High Roads as well as encouraging families, especially children, to grow their own food with our edible plant giveaways.
These efforts have been rewarded with several “outstanding” awards from the Royal Horticultural Society’s London in Bloom “It’s your Neighbourhood” category.
The committee organises the cleaning of the subway at the station annually and with help from local schools conducts litter pickups. Monitoring locally has contributed to broader efforts to improve air quality.
The committee meets regularly every 6 – 8 weeks to coordinate these efforts and is always looking for volunteers especially to help with planting and watering at the station, which has now become a necessity in summer. If you would like to help, please get in touch.
