Unfortunately I couldn’t persuade anyone to take me to school to Lordship Lane station as my school was St. Anne’s in Melford Road. I was seven when the line closed and I’m really sorry I never got to use it. I’ve always wondered if there was a bridge at Langton Rise but this article seems to suggest that the line ran under the bridge so that there wasn’t one actually across the road. The station master’s house for Honor Oak station was just past the railway bridge near the junction of Forest Hill Road and Wood Vale and I remember it being a very imposing dwelling. After 1954 the line was replaced by the 63 bus which was a bit more mundane but very useful to get to school. Thanks for your article which brought back many happy childhood memories. My mum was the domiciliary midwife for the area and her name was Nurse Gillespie.
