@Anonymous - We started small deliberately. There were eight stalls (nine if you include ours), but some sold out within an hour as demand was so much higher than anticipated. We hoped it would be successful, but never dared dream that demand would be so high.

We will learn from this one and improve the next one.

I was quite excited by the Farmers Market, but wow, was I disappointed. There just wasn't enough there, from memory, there were 5 food stalls?? I was assuming it would be the whole of the carpark rather than one more section. There is so much potential, let's see some more stalls!

I think the improvements in progress are going to make the Horniman gardens even better than they were before. I have 2 small children, and my family and I go at least twice a week - it is the single most fantastic resource in the area.
Everyone accepts the Jerk Cookout's popularity far exceeded expectation and became too big for the venue, but it was still a fantastic event and smaller, more manageable fun events in Hornimans are very welcome, especially if they bring money to the museum. I wish them the best of luck.

I have lived in Westwood Park for the last 20 years and seen the Horniman "green" disappearing year after year. It is spring but there are no flowers in the gardens! Only more buildings and expensive projects eating all their finances. And now a cafe' selling alcohol inviting a crowd of people in an area which is not bigger enough to accommodate them all, plus the inconvenience created to residents in the area. Not every park and museums in London organise these events to make money! When I moved in the area, the place was a quiet place to go to be in peace with nature, now is becoming a nightmare! Gardeners on jeeps driving around at all times during the day, site works in progress, areas access denied to public, library closed, animals disappeared. And yet we have already given the Horniman money through the lottery funds. How much and what else do they need to function? Is it becoming an open air pub? Obviously the Forest Society will approve the project because many traders in the area will benefit too, but what about Mr. Horniman's pledge to leave the place to Londoners for their enjoyment, peace and quiet. Is it drinking alcohol in the sun on the grass? Is this the new Glastonbury they wish to create?

Thanks for the feedback. I have provided some explanation of the views of the Forest Hill Society on SouthEast Central Forum in response to other concerns.

It is not possible to get the views of all residents prior to submitting a response to the council, however, by providing the full text of our submissions on planning applications we give local people the opportunity to respond individually to the council should they disagree with our stated position.

At present this application has one letter written in favour and two against (including the one from the Forest Hill Society). Other members of the public can send in their own letters in favour or against if they have strong feelings either way.

I think it is a real shame to turn down somebody taking up a derelict retail unit when there are so many along the road at the moment. Dartmouth Road is a mess..and I think the chances of it being 'revitalised' because of the pools is very limited. We should be celebrating and encouraging a new business opening, not rejecting it. Shame, shame, shame..

Thanks for this excellent update - most of which is positive! One point worth looking into is the fact that you can't buy a through single ticket on the Overground with an interchange to the Underground eg at Canada Water. My partner tried to buy a through ticket from Honor Oak Park to Green Park and you simply can't do it, unless you buy a Travelcard or pay with an Oystercard. Or get out at Canada Water, buy an underground ticket and go back in to the station. Extraordinary!
